Au-Pair in Germany

What does Au-pair mean?

Au-Pair Program in Germany

Become an Au Pair in GermanyThe term "au pair" is French and means something like "on mutual interest".

An au pair is a young person aged between 18 and 24 years who go to another country in order to learn the language and to get to know the people and their culture.

Young people from all over the world get the chance to live with a German family for a certain time.

They are not meant to be a paid housekeeper, but they are supposed to be an equal member of the family for the time being - like an elder sister or brother to the other children.

The duties of an Au-pair are especially the responsibility for the youngsters and easy housework. Especially the Au-pair gets to know the daily life in a family of another culture and a foreign country and make many new friends.

The au pair stay should be at least 6 month and can comprise one year.
We recommend a one-year-stay.

How can I become an au pair?

  • You would like to come to Germany as an au pair and complement your command of the language?
  • You would like to spend a longer period of time (as a rule one year) in Germany to get to know the culture and become acquainted with the mentality of the people?
  • You are fond of children and have experience in taking care of children?
  • You are over 18 and under 25 years old?
  • You have already got a profound basic knowledge of the German language?
  • You know that as an au pair you enter into a piece of new experience which is not always easy (communication in a foreign language, taking over responsibility for the children of the host family)?
  • You know that as an au pair you only receive pocket money 260 € and that you are not allowed to take on other jobs?
