Australia does not have an official Au Pair program.
If you are between 18-30 years old and a national of one of the following countries, you can go to Australia as an au pair by obtaining a 12-month "Working Holiday Visa":

- Age : must be age 18-30
- Salary (Pocket money) : On average an au pair can expect to earn between AUD$ 50 - AUD$ 220 per week
- Number of hrs to work and days off : Au pairs in Australia usually work between 20-40 hrs/week and usually get 2 days off per week
- Visas : It is necessary to have a working holiday visa to work as an au pair. See our
- Duration of stay : With a working holiday visa, an au pair can work in Australia for up to 12 months
- Language requirements : There are no language requirements for Australia but it is suggested that an au pair have a good understanding of English, the national language of Australia .
- Health Insurance : An au pair is not required to have insurance however, as medical treatment in Australia is expensive, it is advisable that they have both travel and health insurance.
- Travel costs : Travel costs to Australia from the au pairs home country should be covered by the au pair. However, if the host family wants to pay for a part of the costs, it is suggested that they do so after the au pair has stayed with them for at least half of the agreed time.
- Have a sound grounding in the language of the host family satisfactory for practical communication purposes.
- Be able to provide child-care relevant references.
- An international driver's licence would be advantageous.

Job Description
- The au pair provides 15 hours per week of child-care and light housekeeping.
- S/he will be available for 2-3 evenings per week for babysitting.
- Child-care includes playing with the children, reading books to the younger ones, and transporting children to and from school.
- The older children will be helped with their homework and supervised cleaning their rooms.

As an au pair you will live with your host family, care for the children and join in their daily routine at home. When you are not involved in baby sitting or child care, you will have free time to meet up with other au pairs, study, travel and enjoy the culture and surroundings of your Australian home. As you will be dealing with baby sitting and childcare jobs, you must have experience in this area - for example as a nanny, child minder, baby sitter, au pair, mother's help or nursery nurse.
We also offer a programme called Au Pair Extraordinaire for people who have had professional nanny jobs and want to work as an au pair in Australia.

Family Placement:
- Au Pair Australia matches participants and families according to the mutual needs of both parties.
- The au pair's experience, language ability, interests, skills, and the family's particular needs and situation are taken into account.
- Families are to accept and treat the au pair as a member of their own family.
- Families provide a private room, meals, and payment start from AUD $50/week.
Placement Period:
The placement period of an Au-Pair normally ranges from 4 to 12 months. This is based on mutual need and can be varied, and we do organise periods outside of this range.
Documents Required Applying:
- Completed application form
- Photocopy of your passport.
- Dear Host Family letter (should include your hobbies, activities, family background, childcare experience, any special sports, musical, or arts & crafts talents, etc.)
- At least two references - preferably childcare
- Photo (s) of yourself. (Professional pictures or those with children, family members etc. are best.)
- Criminal record check (contact your local police station)
- Photocopy of any school or training certificates
- It is also beneficial if you have a driver’s license, or an international driver’s license (but not required)
